Now please, don't misunderstand me. I am an extremely patriotic person. I stand up during colors, the playing/singing of our National Anthem (regardless of how poorly it is played or sung, this year was no exception) facing the American flag with my hand over my heart (hat removed). Most time, I'll even sing along (my apologies to the surrounding fans)!
But why are we reading the Declaration of Independence? I fail to see the connection to a football game. Who, on the entire planet, doesn't know that the Unites States of America, is an independent country? I would much rather make all of the people in the stadium recite the Pledge of Allegiance. You remember that, don't you?
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.If you're trying to get the attention of the peoples of the world, to let them know that, "We the People" are the strongest, most dedicated and determined nation on planet earth, the sound of 82,500+ football fans reciting the Pledge, would clearly make that point!
To make matters worse, make a note of WHO was reading the Declaration. Yes, there were a number of people with which I have no problem, but to hear the words from the mouths of Washington D.C. and Hollywood hypocrites, literally sickened me.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.--Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States.I've taken the liberty of highlighting a couple of passages in the Declaration. During the current POTUS' administration, as well as the previous eight administrations, these particular passages have been ignored and whittled away slowly, to the point that this Declaration is nearly irrelevant! This Country is no longer the great and respected one that it once was.
So please, stop the insanity and hypocrisy! Don't waste our time with the reading of a document that you clearly don't understand.
